LYNDON – Shirley Ruth Buntjer, age 72, of Lyndon, died Thursday, September 19, 2019, at her home.
Shirley was born on March 7, 1947, in Sterling, the daughter of John and Edna (Eden) Muntean. She married John Buntjer on February 14, 1978, in Sterling. Shirley volunteered for 18 years at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Prophetstown. She enjoyed her cats and knitting.
Survivors include her husband, John of Lyndon; two sons, Alan James Vaillencourt of Cookville, TN and his children, Alicia (Joe) Vermiglio, Sara (Chase) Oliver and Alan (Caitlin) Vaillencourt and Evan John (Lyn) Vaillencourt of Sterling and his children, Brayden and Zachery Bryan Vaillencourt; four stepchildren, Daria (Asher) Almas of TX, Brad Buntjer of Sterling, David Buntjer of Dixon and Shawn Buntjer of Dixon; 14 step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elda Wangelin of WI and Marge Allen of FL; three brothers, Harold Muntean of Sterling, Lyle Muntean of Rock Falls and Delbert Muntean of Inez, IL; sister-in-law, Diane Muntean of Mt. Carroll; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Raymond Muntean; step-son, Jonathan Buntjer; and daughter-in-law, Evelyn Vaillencourt.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019, from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Prophetstown United Methodist Church. Memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Mark Meyers officiating. Burial will be at Lyndon Cemetery after the service and a luncheon will follow the interment.
