Richard Wertz

Richard J. Wertz, 54, of Dimmick passed away Oct. 10, 2019, in St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria after a brief illness.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Hyacinth Church in La Salle with the Rev. Thomas Otto officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Sublette. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday in St. Hyacinth Church, La Salle and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services, also in the church. Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is handling the arrangements.

Rich was born May 9, 1965, in Peru to James and Shirley (Anglavar) Wertz. He married Stacey Leffelman on Nov. 27, 1993, in Peru.

Rich worked for 20 plus years as a delivery driver for Coca-Cola in Peru and then farmed alongside his father-in-law and two brothers-in-law. He was a member of St. Hyacinth Church, La Salle. Rich enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports, coaching his kids and mowing his grass. He was an avid L-P fan. He loved to talk and no one was a stranger to Rich.

Rich was survived by his wife, Stacey of Dimmick; one daughter, Abby O’Malley of La Salle; two sons, Andy and Max Wertz at home; one sister, Debbie Duncan of La Salle; one niece and three nephews, Whitney, Tyler, Nick and Ryan; his father-in-law, Gene Leffelman of Sublette; and two brothers-in-law, Shawn and Scott Leffelman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Sue Leffelman; and stepmother-in-law, Faye Leffelman.

Pallbearers will be Nick Duncan, Tyler and Ryan Leffelman, Tom Lijewski, Doug Janka, Don Kowalczyk, Todd Witek and Matt Anglavar.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a fund to be established in Rich’s name at a later date.
