William J. Burris, 80, of Peru passed away Oct. 10, 2019, at his home.
A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Sunday in Mueller Funeral Home, Peru with the Rev. J.A. Small of St. Joseph’s Church, Peru officiating. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Mr. Burris was born Dec. 6, 1938, in Spring Valley to William M. and Edna (Shipp) Burris. He married Linda Patarozzi on Oct. 24, 1959, in St. Anthony’s Church, Spring Valley.
Mr. Burris was a machinist and in management at Sauer-Danfoss for 36 years. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and the Eagles in Peru. He was coach and umpire for Peru Little League baseball for more than 36 years having a field named after him. He was involved in the Illinois District 20 baseball as an administrator and was an avid youth and high school wrestling fan and scout.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; six children, Jeff (Kathy) Burris of Oglesby, William Burris of Iowa and Sylvia (Jeff) Ballard of Peru; Jason Burris of Rochester, Minn., Victor (Gina) Burris of La Salle and Greg (Denise) Burris of Wyanet; 29 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard L. (Kate) Burris of La Salle; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
