Deteriorating building torn down

A group of about 30 residents gathered in downtown Mount Morris this afternoon to watch the demolition of a deteriorating building at 23 S. Wesley Ave. owned by a land trust created by Susan Penner. The village board voted Sept. 10 to pay up to $50,000 toward the cost of demolishing the building, which was estimated at $78,000. Its share is coming from Tax Increment Financing funds, which are earmarked to address blighted properties. Once its share is paid, the city will be given the title to the property. A group of about 30 residents gathered in downtown Mount Morris this afternoon to watch the demolition of a deteriorating building at 23 S. Wesley Ave. owned by a land trust created by Susan Penner. The village board voted Sept. 10 to pay up to $50,000 toward the cost of demolishing the building, which was estimated at $78,000. Its share is coming from Tax Increment Financing funds, which are earmarked to address blighted properties. Once its share is paid, the city will be given the title to the property.
