MINERAL — Judith A. “Judy” Turner, 78, of Mineral died Friday, Oct. 18, 2019, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton.
Judith Gorey was born Dec. 30, 1940, in Vermont, Ill., the daughter of David D. and Anna L. (Burgett) Gorey. She married Alonzo “Lonnie” Turner Jr. on Jan. 15, 1961, in Kewanee. He died March 24, 2017.
Judy had worked as a waitress for many years at the Sauk Trail/Fort Annawan until its closing. She had later worked at Ace Hardware Distribution in Princeton until her retirement.
Judy was a member of the Mineral United Methodist Church. She was also an avid runner, having run many marathons up into her 60s. Judy had a great love for her family, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters, Diana (Jarrod) Loerzel of Germantown, Md., Michele Turner-Scott (Jay Scott) of Neponset and Becky (Brett) Gibson of Sheffield; a son, Alonzo C. Turner III (Jeffrey Johnson) of Berwyn; seven grandchildren, Kristopher, Kelli, Justin, Emali, Adam, Corrine and Kenneth; eight great-grandchildren, Damon, Gavin, Haily, Zoey, Owen, Nolan, Parker and Charlotte; five sisters, Nancy Payne of El Cajon, Calif., Shirley Kuster of Sheffield, Patti (Pat) Mirocha of Davenport, Iowa, Sharon (Bob) DeWitt of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Janice (Wes) Bengtson of Davenport, Iowa; three brothers, David (Alice) Gorey of Kewanee, John Gorey of Galesburg and Joe (Lynn) Gorey of Christopher; a sister-in-law, Muriel “Bootsie” (Dean) Schaefer of Urbana, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her beloved sister, Beverly Hensley.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at the Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services in Sheffield with the Rev. Terry Lancaster officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until the services on Friday at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will be at a later date in the Mineral Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Mineral United Methodist Church, Freedom House or Western Bureau County Food Pantry.
