DeKalb's leaf collection begins Monday

DeKALB – The city’s annual leaf collection begins Monday, and residents are encouraged to consolidate their fall foliage for pickup.

The collection will go through Dec. 6, weather permitting, according to a news release from the city’s Public Works Department, except for Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving.

Crews expect to make three to four collection cycles, and the last chance for pickup will be at 7 a.m. Dec. 2.

In order to have your leaves picked up, you should either rake them into a narrow row parallel to the backside of the curb, or place them in biodegradable yard-waste bags or open garbage cans.

Lakeshore Recycling also will pick up your leaves, curbside, on your regularly-scheduled garbage day.

Raked leaf piles should be free of debris such as large tree branches and rocks, and not in the street, the release said. Leaves placed in plastic bags will not be picked up.

Crews will begin collection on the south side of DeKalb and work north to Lincoln Highway, then move to the north side of the city.
