High school sports roundup for Wednesday, Oct. 23

Sam Bellantuono scored two goals two minutes apart early in the second half as No. 6-seeded Huntley defeated No. 11 Larkin, 3-1, in their semifinal of the Class 3A Huntley Boys Soccer Regional on Wednesday.

The Red Raiders (10-10-1) scored first when Bryce Dalton scored off an assist from Bellantuono in the eighth minute.

Larkin evened the score before the half.

Huntley goalkeeper Ethan Kornas had 10 saves. The Raiders will face No. 3 South Elgin at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the championship game.

Jacobs 8, Harlem 0: At the Class 3A Harlem Regional in Machesney Park, Liam Armstrong scored three goals, and the No. 1-seeded Golden Eagles rolled past No. 16 Harlem.

Daniel Zust added a pair of goals for the Golden Eagles (13-4-3), who wrapped up the Fox Valley Conference title last week.

Tarek Shah, Bryan Ramos-Munoz and Ruben Zarate also had goals for the Eagles. Jacobs will face No. 8 seed Elgin for the regional championship at 3 p.m. Saturday. Elgin defeated Rockford East, 5-0, on Wednesday.

Streamwood 2, Cary-Grove 1: At the Class 3A Dundee-Crown Regional in Carpentersville, Jesus Padilla had No. 10 seed Cary-Grove's lone goal as the Trojans (6-8-2) lost to No. 7 seed Streamwood, 2-1.

Trojans goalkeeper Sam Kedzior made seven saves.

No. 2 seed D-C (11-9-1) faces Streamwood at 3 p.m. Saturday for the championship.

Hampshire 4, St. Edward 3: At the Class 2A Hampshire Regional, the host Whip-Purs got a goal with 10 seconds remaining in overtime to defeat the Green Wave and avoid a shootout.

Sawyer Shores collected a ball deflected off a corner kick for his third goal to put the No. 5-seeded Whips (14-9-2) into Saturday’s 4:30 p.m. championship against No. 2-seeded Sycamore. No. 3 seed St. Ed finished 12-7.

Kobe Frenette had Hampshire’s other goal. The Green Wave came from down, 2-0, to take a 3-2 lead in the second half, but Hampshire tied the score off a penalty kick with eight minutes remaining.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

McHenry 2, Johnsburg 0: At McHenry, Dunja Masic had 20 assists and Taylor Soephel had 18 digs as the Warriors (23-11) won their nonconference match over the Skyhawks (7-22), 25-18, 25-19.

Sarah Boelkens led McHenry with eight kills, and Kaitlyn Nagel and Abbie Honkala contributed six kills each.

Johnsburg was led by Shannon Flynn with three kills and two aces.

Makayla Huff and Karley Nelson each had three assists, Sheridan Milewski added three kills, and Delany Condon had five digs.
