Police capture Florida man after 24-hour manhunt

PRINCETON — A Florida man who had been the subject of a 24-hour police manhunt was apprehended Tuesday night in Princeton.

According to a news release by Bureau County Sheriff Jim Reed:

On Tuesday, Nov. 5, at approximately 1:13 p.m., Bureau County deputies responded to a possible burglary in progress in rural Princeton.

The suspect was believed to be the same individual who fled from Illinois State Police CRIMPAT team and Princeton Police Department in two separate incidents during the previous 24 hours.

Officers from Illinois State Police, Illinois State SWAT, Bureau County Sheriff’s Office, Princeton Police Department and Bureau County Emergency Management Agency responded to the call.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., after a large-scale search and brief foot chase in Princeton, Carlos D. Estade, 48, from Miami Beach, Fla., was taken into custody.

Estade initially abandoned his vehicle and fled after dark Monday during an Illinois State Police traffic stop between DePue and Princeton, near Monterrey Mushrooms.

The search led to Princeton on Tuesday morning with several sightings of a man believed to be the suspect. Princeton Police announced at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday that they were calling off the search, but the manhunt resumed when the possible burglary in progress was reported.
