Yorkville Middle School student charged with aggravated assault

YORKVILLE – An eighth grade student has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly threatening a classmate.

Yorkville Middle School administration were made aware of the alleged incident by students at about 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at the school, 920 Prairie Crossing Drive, according to a news release from Yorkville School District 115 and Yorkville Police Department.

Police then were contacted by school officials to help in the investigation, the release said.

Yorkville Deputy Police Chief Behr Pfizenmaier said there weren't any weapons involved in the incident that took place on school grounds.

"I know that a pencil was displayed and some inappropriate comments were made of harm to the victim," Pfizenmaier said.

School and police officials said in the release the eighth grade student who made the threats is being charged with aggravated assault, which is typically a Class A misdemeanor.

If an adult were convicted on the same charge, the adult could receive less than a year in jail, be fined up to $2,500 or both.

Pfizenmaier said the student wasn't arrested and charges were filed directly through the Kendall County State's Attorney's office.
