STERLING – James “Jim” Joseph Sheley, 88, of Sterling, died Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling.
Jim was born on May 4, 1931, in Sterling, the son of Orin J. and Bess D. (Spaulding) Sheley. He was a United States Army Veteran and served in the Korean War. He married Rose Elgin on June 16, 1956, in Sterling. Jim worked at RB&W for 31 years. He was an avid reader. He loved to sit outside, feed the birds and drink his coffee, and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Most of all, Jim was a family man and cherished the time he spent with his loved ones.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Rose; six children, James (Debra) Sheley of Rock Falls, William (Louise) Sheley of Sterling, Paul (Lynne) Sheley of Sterling, Joseph (Sheri) Sheley of Sterling, Cynthia (the late Leonard) Pritchard of Rock Falls and Audrey (Leon) Creekpaum of Glenpool, Oklahoma; one sister, Dolly Anselmo of Sterling; one brother, Orin W. Sheley of Sterling; seventeen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Joan Hemminger and Audrey Sheley.
Visitation will be Monday, November 11, 2019, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls, 1002 12th Ave. There will be a private family service and graveside held.
