Eugene German did a little bit of everything in leading the Northern Illinois men's basketball team to an 86-81 win at Western Illinois
German scored 26 points, dished out six assists and grabbed six rebounds. Trendon Hankerson and Nathan Scott each scored 13 points for NIU.
Kobe Webster scored 26 points to lead WIU.
The Huskies fended off a late run from the Leathernecks, to move to 4-2 and win their fourth straight game.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Hawks open with win: Hiawatha earned a 34-29 victory over Alden-Hebron.
Sycamore wins defensive battle: The Spartans beat Antioch, 33-13.
WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Huskies fall on road: Northern Illinois dropped a 69-66 decision on the road at Illinois State, falling to 2-2 in the process.
Courtney Woods scored 26 points, grabbed five rebounds and five assists. Myia Starks added 12 points and five rebounds.
Riley Blackwell sank two free throws with 3.8 seconds remaining to pull the Huskies within two, but the Huskies turned the ball over down three with under three seconds remaining following a missed free throw.
Tete Maggett led the Redbirds with 17 points.
LATE TUESDAY
Royals top Mooseheart: Tessa Prellberg had 24 points, five rebounds and five steals as Hinckley-Big Rock beat Mooseheart, 44-33.
Cassie Seaney had four points and eight rebounds, while Payton Barry seven points and five rebounds.
McHenry men beat Kish: Alex Thomas scored 24 and had 18 rebounds but the Kougars fell to the Scots, 88-84.
Connor Todd added 14 points and 10 rebounds, Daelyn Franklin scored 19 and Griffin Hansen scored 14.
Kish women fall to McHenry: Dennysha Kizer had 10 points and 11 rebounds as Kougars fell, 74-57.
Reigning Region IV player of the week Cesca Vardman added 10.
