David Pohl

David G. Pohl, 80, of Mendota passed away Nov. 18, 2019, in Mendota Lutheran Home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Peter Pilon officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.

David was born Aug. 18, 1939, in Earlville to William and Margaret (Rhodes) Pohl. He married Annette Houski on Oct. 28, 1961. She preceded him in death on Oct. 7, 2009.

David was a 1957 graduate of Mendota High School. He spent 12 years as a painter at Cross Body Shop in Mendota and worked at Sears Repair in Mendota before starting a typewriter repair business in his garage which led to the opening of Pohl’s Office Supply in Mendota, La Salle and Ottawa. He was a member of Holy Cross Church, Mendota Golf Club and a 50-year member of Mendota Elks Lodge. He was a season ticket holder to Mendota High School football and basketball teams. He enjoyed golfing and hanging out with his breakfast buddies. He loved watching the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago White Sox.

He is survived by his two sons, Tim (Molly) Pohl and Mark (Melody) Pohl, both of Mendota; brother Stanley Pohl of Wynne, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Blake (Dominique Schupp) Pohl, Brody Pohl, Thomas Pohl, Emma Pohl, Bailee Pohl and Sebastian Pohl; sister-in-law, Rita Hoscheid of Cherry; nieces and nephews; and special friend Carol Elmore of Mendota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his daughter Ginny Pohl on Aug. 15, 2018; a sister Betty Soedler; and two brothers, Francis “Whitey” Pohl and Arthur Pohl.

Memorials may be directed to Mendota Golf Club for scholarships or the donor’s choice.
