A 78-year-old Huntley woman was taken to Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru, then transferred to a Rockford hospital with serious injuries, following a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 39, two miles north of Route 18.
Patricia O’Connor sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to an Illinois State Police release Monday.
At about 2:20 p.m. Saturday, O'Connor was traveling in a silver 2005 Saturn car northbound on Interstate 39 and for unknown reasons left the roadway entering the median and driving over the embankment down into a creek, landing upright, according to a press release issued by Lostant Fire Department and Illinois State Police.
Personnel arrived and found a car in the creek below the interstate.
Police said it is unclear why O’Connor’s vehicle left the roadway. No citations have been issued as of yet.
The woman was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was taken by Lostant Ambulance to IVCH, then transferred to Rockford.
Illinois State Police District 17 of La Salle, Lostant Police Department and Oglesby Ambulance responded. Illinois State Police is handling the accident investigation.
The woman's name was not released by Lostant Fire Department.
