ST. CHARLES – Kane County judges read their favorite bedtime stories to a group of about 50 Kane County families as part of the 21st annual Family Reading Night with the Judges Nov. 20 at the Kane County Law Library & Self Help Legal Center.
According to a news release, the event coincides with the Illinois State Library's Family Reading night, which is a statewide initiative promoting literacy.
The guests were also able to tour a courtroom, sit on a judge's bench and sit in the jurors' box, the release stated. Associate Judges Charles Petersen, Julia Yetter and Bradley David donned their pajamas and took turns reading to the crowd. This year, Judge David did the honor of reading "The True Story of the Three Little Pig"s as Told by A. Wolf, marking two decades of this fan favorite title being selected as the one judges most like to read, the release stated.
Law Library Director Halle Cox said in the release that she started this event as a way to impart a positive image of the law into children’s minds.
“A lot of people do not have a pleasant initial experience with the legal system and because of that, we thought it would be great for children and their parents to have a positive experience with the judges and to see the inside of the courthouse,” she stated.
