Toy trains will delight at Little White School Museum

For years, toy trains have been favorites of kids, both young and old. So kids of all ages are invited to visit the Little White School Museum, 72 Polk Street, Oswego, in December to enjoy some serious toy train entertainment.

Just as toy trains have delighted and entertained for decades, so have Legos. The two will combine at the museum on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14-15, with “Lego Trains in Action.” From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, visitors will enjoy a fascinating and exciting display complete with Lego-based trains, buildings, vehicles and people. See if you can spot any familiar Oswego buildings on the Lego layout.

All ages are welcome to this free, family-friendly event hosted by the Oswegoland Heritage Association in partnership with the Oswegoland Park District.

Then from the live steam trains of the 19th century to modern garden railways of the 21st century, learn all about the toy trains that have fascinated children for more than 100 years at Museum Assistant Director Bob Stekl’s presentation, “The History of Toy Trains.” Starting at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, visitors age 16 and up will learn how toy trains began and how they evolved over the years as Stekl guides visitors along the rails of history for an afternoon journey toy train enthusiasts won’t want to miss. Admission is $5 per person. While pre-registration is recommended, registration at the door the day of the program is welcome for this program hosted by the Oswegoland Heritage Association in partnership with the Oswegoland Park District.

While at the Little White School Museum, visitors should be sure to stop in the museum gallery to enjoy “Toys from the Attic,” the latest seasonal exhibit mounted by museum assistant Sarah Kimes. From clamp-on ice skates to wooden toys to games and puzzles of years gone by, the exhibit is sure to delight visitors of all ages.
