UPDATED AT 2:45 P.M. TUESDAY, DEC. 17:

YORKVILLE – One of the owners of the Dunkin Donuts at 1604 North Bridge Street, Route 47 confirmed the store is not open for business following a fire earlier this week.

Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a fire on Monday night, Dec. 16, that started in a dumpster behind the business and spread to the building, according to initial reports. All customers and employees were reported out of the building as of about 5:15 p.m.

Nick Desai, one of the owners of the business, confirmed the store is not open for business currently. He deferred additional comment to his business partner Dharmisth Patel.

Patel did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday, Dec. 17 from Record Newspapers.

Jim Bateman, fire chief for Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District, said as of about 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16 that it was unclear if the fire started in the dumpster next to the building.

“We’re still checking that right now,” Bateman said.

What first responders do know, Bateman continued, is that the fire went up to the back of the building and resulted in building damage that exposed the interior to the elements.

Bateman previously said the fire is not considered suspicious for now, but fire and police officials were still investigating the incident and reviewing surveillance footage.

“We’re kind of keeping all avenues open right now,” Bateman said.

Bateman confirmed there were no injuries as a result of the blaze and first responders didn’t transport anyone from the scene.

Bateman said he has no idea what property damage dollar amount the building owners are looking at, considering damage to the building and inventory inside of the building.

“I couldn’t even guess,” Bateman said.

Bateman said he had anticipated the building closing up as a result of the fire, since Nicor and ComEd officials came by to turn off building utilities.

“It’s not going to be open for a little bit,” Bateman had said.

Bateman said there were no other reports that he was aware of regarding possible smoke damage in other nearby buildings as a result of the fire.

Yorkville police were on scene, along with the Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District. According to a Facebook post, the fire was out as of about 5:40 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16 but first responders remained at the scene.

“This may cause a traffic delay in the area of Route 47 and Route 34,” Yorkville police had said in the post.
