A man was charged with involuntary manslaughter Tuesday after the his 31-year-old co-worker was killed in Crest Hill during what is described as an apparent accidental shooting, according to court records.
Marius Januzis, 42, of Boca Raton, Florida, faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of Joliet resident Donatas Bruzga on Friday, according to the criminal complaint filed against him.
Will County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Revis said an autopsy of Bruzga was completed Saturday. Preliminary results show he died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
He said the incident occurred in the 2000 block of North Raynor Avenue in Crest Hill. Police said the shooting took place at an auto mechanic shop.
Bruzga was taken to the Amita
St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where he was pronounced dead at
7:21 p.m. Friday.
Revis said the manner of Bruzga’s death was pending toxicology and police reports.
“It’s still being investigated,” Revis said.
At Januzis’ court hearing Tuesday, Will County Judge Chrystel Gavlin scheduled a preliminary hearing on his case for Jan. 9.
Gavlin did not make a ruling on
his bond. Januzis is being held at the Will County jail on a $500,000 bond and he will need to post $50,000 for his release.
Although Januzis said he speaks Lithuanian, he told Gavlin he could understand her.
“Yeah, I understand,” he said when Gavlin asked him if he understood his bond amount.
She told Januzis he faces a Class 3 felony, which carries a prison sentence of two to 10 years if he is convicted.
