All season, the Southwest Prairie Conference West had been pointing to Week 9: Minooka vs. Oswego. Both teams entered unbeaten and looking to lock up a top seed in the playoffs.
Oswego had won the previous eight conference titles.
There would not be a ninth.
Zach Wingerter's 6-yard touchdown run with 2:09 left in the fourth capped a thrilled for Minooka, who finished as conference champs and with a 9-0 regular season record.
"It means the world to all of us," Minooka quarterback Seth Lehr said. "Since we've been little kids we've played together and we've always talked about this moment. We'd come, watch the high school games and we'd want to be like them one day. We came out here and got it done."
The Indians also snapped Oswego's 36-game home win streak in conference dating back to 2010, and the Panthers' 24-game SPC win streak. Minooka is conference champ for the first time since sharing it in 2010.
Minooka three times converted on third downs on the final drive, the last Wingerter's run.
"That's the attitude we have," Minooka offensive lineman Jake Shipla said. "They were good, we were going back and forth all night. We just never put our heads down."
