Sterling High School December Student of the Month: Jaguer Heier

Jaguer Heier, 18, of Sterling, is one of Sterling High School’s November Students of the Month. He is the son of Christopher and Nicole Heier and he has two brothers, Daxtun Heier and Draque Penaflor-Heier, and a sister, Jaunte Jones.

Favorite class: I've always been intrigued by U.S. history, and that class in its curriculum, and my favorite teacher, Taylor Jackson, allowed me to enjoy learning about our country's plentiful history. I also did very well in that class, and that made me feel accomplished. Jackson always made class interesting and made it go by quick. She always is willing to answer questions and make even complex historical events easy to comprehend.

Least-favorite class: Precalculus is the class that I realized that my math skills are limited, and I struggled to maintain a decent grade. Nothing against the course or my teacher, but it just wasn't for me.

If you could create any new class at your school, what would it be? Film analysis or a filmmaking class. I'd love to just watch movies and examine what makes them effective or interesting to watch. It would just be a dream.

School activities in which you participate: National Honor Society, speech, Madrigals, musicals, plays, group interpretation and contest play, which especially helps me further my skills as an actor. I'd be a very different performer had I not been a part of it.

Civic, church, or other volunteer activities in which you participate: I am a volunteer dog-sitter.

Do you have a job? I am a food and nutrition assistant at CGH Medical Center in Sterling. I enjoy the flexibility of my scheduling and just the atmosphere among many of my coworkers. We're always willing to help each other out or just have fun.

How would you describe your group of friends? Extravagantly fascinating.

What will you do after high school? I plan to go to a 4-year university somewhere on the East Coast. I'm considering either majoring in secondary education or possibly communications.

What is something you learned in high school that you think you'll never use? I don't plan to ever use anything in pre-calc or my science classes in my life, but they're in my head, I guess.

If you could change one thing about your school, what would it be? Make me the new,Golden Warriors mascot. I can get any crowd to cheer at the top of their lungs if I just get the chance.

What does it take to be a successful high school student? Patience, whether it be with your peers or your teachers or coaches, there's bound to be a misunderstanding at some point in high school. Patience will help resolve any conflicts to come.

What do you do in your free time? I'm either sipping a mean cup of iced coffee with my friends or just unwinding at home with my family, probably watching some mediocre Lifetime movie.

What's one thing in your life you can't do without? My dogs. They may be brats, but they're my brats.

What kind of music are you listening to? Probably a musical soundtrack or Michael Jackson.

What scares you? My best not being good enough.

If you could try any job for the day, what would it be? A film director. Getting to be in charge of a project of that scope would be delightfully stressful.

If you could go anywhere in the world for free, where would it be? My dad went to Germany when he was about my age and he loved it; I'd be interested to see it for myself.

What is your favorite childhood memory? Easily convincing my younger brother, Daxtun, to throw chimney ashes all around to make me laugh.

What is the best way to cheer you up? Show me a really funny video or make a fool of yourself. It's really not hard to make me laugh.

What is your life's philosophy? No matter what's the issue, there always is someone who can comfort you. It'll all be alright.

What is your favorite ...
