Anna Wei, 18, of Rock Falls, is Rock Falls High School’s December Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Mike Wei and Serina Lin, and she has a sister, Carol Wei, and a brother, Thomas Wei.
Favorite class: Economics is an exciting class, and it is one that helps me make sense of many daily things around me.
Least-favorite class: In accounting, I mainly subtract and add a number from one column to another, which became dull over time.
Favorite teacher: Mark Truesdell has a unique teaching style. He always is willing to help his students, and he's hilarious.
If you could create a class at your school, what would it be? Japanese, which I have always wanted to learn.
School activities in which you participate: I am in Junior Optimist, which is a community service club, National Honor Society, science club and art club.
Do you have a job? I have a job at Asian Buffet in Sterling, and I love it because I often meet interesting, funny, and wise people.
How would you describe your group of friends? They have a strong work ethic, always strive to become better, and continuously try to do their best in everything.
What will you do after high school? I will go to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to major in biology, minor in economics and be on a pre-medical track.
What is something you learned in high school that you think you'll never use? Trigonometry rarely applies in the real world.
If you could change one thing about your school, what would it be? To add more science classes, because many people, including myself, would love to take more variety of them and learn more.
What does it take to be a successful high school student? Have a strong work ethic and the willingness to do anything, including staying up late to study.
What do you do in your free time? I usually read, study, work, and watch anime.
What is something that you cannot live without? Books, because they can help a person gain more knowledge and bring a person to a whole new world.
What kind of music do you listen to? I usually listen to pop.
What scares you? Except insects and height, the unknown and uncertainty in life scare me the most.
If you could try any job for the day, what would it be? I would like to be a surgeon, because I want to know if I'll like the job that I've been interested in for a long time.
If you could go anywhere in the world for free, where would it be? I would like to go to the Maldives. The island is gorgeous, and I would like to visit it before it is covered with water around 30 years from now.
What is your favorite childhood memory? The summers when I travel to different places.
What is the best way to cheer you up? Let me sleep and provide me with delicious food.
What is your life's philosophy? Always work hard and leave no regrets, since time never goes back.
Is there anything else you want people to know about you? I only know Chinese, and not Japanese or Korean.
