A Crest Hill man was arrested and jailed after deputies said he went into a washroom at Instant Replay bar in Joliet Township and pointed a gun at the chest of a man with whom he had gotten into a verbal altercation.
About 11 p.m. Monday, Will County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to Instant Replay at 2409 Plainfield Road and spoke with a 52-year-old man who said Alejandro Valdez, 37, of the 21400 block of Carlton Street pointed at a gun at him, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.
The man said he was inside the washroom at the bar when he saw Valdez open the door and point a 9mm pistol at his chest, Hoffmeyer said. The two men, who didn’t know each other, had a verbal altercation earlier at the bar.
The man left Instant Replay, contacted the police and waited for them outside the bar, she said.
Deputies went inside the bar and spoke with Valdez, Hoffmeyer said, and they took the handgun, as well as ammunition, from his pocket.
The deputies also found one bullet on the washroom floor. Valdez was arrested and deputies determined he did not have a Firearm Owner’s Identification card or concealed-carry permit, she said.
Valdez was taken to jail, where he is being held on a $150,000 bond. He will need to post $15,000 for his release.
On Oct. 20, 2017, Valdez pleaded guilty to aggravated unlawful use of a weapon for possessing a Smith & Wesson .40-caliber handgun without a FOID card.
