Donald “Donnie” Peters

Donald H. "Donnie" Peters, 87, of Peru died Dec. 20, 2019, in St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the mausoleum at Peru City Cem-etery with the Rev. Alex Garn-carz officiating. Burial will follow at Peru City Cemetery. Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is handling the arrangements.
Mr. Peters was born Dec. 27, 1931, in Peru to Hobart M. and Ella (Halm) Peters. He served with the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1955 where he was stationed in Fort Lewis in Washington and also in Germany. He married Carol Ruth Herrmann in Zion United Church of Christ in Peru on July 17, 1955. He was a lifelong farmer and also drove a semi-truck for Denler's Supermarket. Donnie was a 1949 graduate of La Salle-Peru Township High School. He was a lifelong member of Zion United Church of Christ in Peru and past president of Peru Waltham Insurance Co. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, camping, snowmobiling and was an avid gardener.
Mr. Peters is survived by his wife Carol of 64 years, two sisters; Lois J. Wilmot of Peru and Alice M. (Lyle) Guenther of Ottawa and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Zion United Church of Christ in Peru or the donor's choice.
