Warriors 6th in Dixon

Rockets fall in State Farm semi; Clippers cruise at home

The Sterling Golden Warriors fell in the fifth-place game at the Dixon Holiday Classic on Saturday afternoon, losing to Rockford Guilford 50-45.

Brook Borum had 13 points, and Hailey Walters and Bree Borum scored 10 each for Sterling, which led 33-31 headfing into the fourth quarter before it was outscored 19-12 in the final period. Grace Gould chipped in eight points.

Oregon 62, Rochelle 51: Olivia Lambrigtsen poured in 26 points and Jenae Bothe added 18 as the Hawks got past the Hubs in a consolation bracket game at Dixon.

Josie Lundquist led Rochelle with 14 points, and Sofia Lenkaitis added 12.

Newman 62, Springfield Southeast 60: Macaire Brown scored 25 points and Josie Rank added 20 as the Comets edged the Spartans in their Dixon finale.

Warkins Classic

Bureau Valley 48, Morrison 28: The Storm jumped out to a 16-4 lead over the Fillies after one quarter and cruised to a win.

Morgan Ringle had 15 points to lead Bureau Valley, and Kamryn Kolb added seven, as 11 different BV players scored.

Shelby Veltrop scored 10 for Morrison, and Grace Steines added eight.

Orion 42, Erie-Prophetstown 38: The Panthers could not quite overcome a slow start, trailing 12-8 after one quarter and 24-12 at halftime before scoring 11 points in the third and 15 in the fourth.

Mak Glassburn led EP with 10 points, Ella Heyvaert scored nine, and Alex Cannavo added eight.

Stockton 55, Fulton 38: The Steamers got 11 points from Kearston Norman and 10 from Liz Fish in the loss at Erie.

Stockton led 18-6 after one and 30-13 at halftime before Fulton chipped away at the lead in the third with 12-8 scoring edge in that quarter. But Stockton extended the lead again in the fourth.

State Farm Classic

Normal University 42, Rock Falls 27: The Rockets were held to two points in the first quarter and five in the second in a loss at the State Farm Holiday Classic.

Abi Peyton led the way with 13 points for Rock Falls, which will play in the third-place game at 9 a.m. today.

Amboy Holiday Tournament

Amboy 64, Ottawa Marquette 23: The Clippers advanced to the final in their own tournament after sweeping their way through pool play, outscoring Indian Creek, Roanoke Benson and Marquette by a combined 188-83.

Against Marquette, the Clippers led 22-4 after one, 43-10 at halftime, and 60-16 after three.

Mallory Powers continued her personal hot streak with a 20-point night. Abi Payne added 16.

Amboy will face Lena-Winslow at 7:30 p.m. today for the tournament title.

Earlville Tournament

West Carroll 45, Earlville 22: The Thunder claimed the first holiday tournament championship in school history with a win over the hosts.

West Carroll went on a 30-5 run to overcome a 4-0 deficit in the first minute of the game, and led 30-9 at halftime.

Kylie Hill and Madison Haynes each scored 11 points. Haynes also grabbed 12 rebounds and seven steals, and Hill had nine rebounds and five steals while deflecting eight passes. Natalie Hughes added eight points for West Carroll, which won the consolation championship at Earlville last season.
