Prep roundup: MVP Cooper Larsen leads undefeated Indian Creek to Marseilles title

Indian Creek outlasted Kewanee to win the Marseilles Tournament Monday 64-61 as Cooper Larsen earned MVP honors in the process.

Indian Creek (11-0) held on late for the win, as Kewanee rallied from a 16-point deficit to pull within a point in the final minute.

Larsen scored 23 and had 10 rebounds. Indian creek coach Joe Piekarz said Larsen sank crucial free throws down the stretch of the fourth quarter. Drew Gaston scored 15 and Michael Lampson added 14. Lampson joined Larsen on the all-tournament team.

"Kewanee is an outstanding team," Piekarz said. "We knew they would make one more run. I think we did an excellent job of keeping our heads."

Royals drop game at Plano: Newark defeated Hinckley-Big Rock 56-20 at the Plano Christmas Classic.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Finner keeps scoring as Barbs split: DeKalb fell to Eastland 54-50 and defeated Harlem 65-44.

In the victory, Sanaa Finner scored 24, Florence Omodayo scored 15 and Ashley Nelson had 14. In the loss, Finner scored 17, Omodayo contributed 14 and Nelson posted nine.

IC takes fourth: Indian Creek dropped to fourth place at the Amboy tournament after a 52-36 loss to Hall.
