Arlan “Mac” McLaughlin

Arlan “Mac” R. McLaughlin, 81, of Spring Valley, formerly of Mendota, died Dec. 27, 2019, in OSF St. Anthony’s Medical Center, Rockford.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hurst Funeral Home, Ladd, with visitation from 10 a.m. until services.

Arlan was born March 20, 1938, in Troy Grove to Harold and Vera (Kreiser) McLaughlin. He married Tamara (Castner). He later married Madeline (Zitoun). He owned Mac’s Cities Service Shop in Mendota. He then owned and operated his own semi truck. Arlan enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycle. He also enjoyed being a mechanic, working on motors, and using his hands. He was always willing to help others when needed. He loved attending his grandchildren’s events.

Arlan is survived by his wife, Madeline of Spring Valley; six children, Joy (Jeff) Sterling of Mendota, Elizabeth (James) Ambler of Mendota, Julie (Eric) Kisellus of Utica, John (Debbie) Andes of Hollowayville, Jim (Tina) Andes of Mark and Jody (Angie) Andes of South Carolina; grandchildren Danielle, Haley, Eva, Erica, Elysia, Elaina, Elivia, Stacy, Michelle, Steven, Jeremy, Jennifer, Josh, Ricky, Tom, Jonathon and Jessica; many great-grandchildren, and one sister, Wilda (John) Daffara of Indiana.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Anita Edwards and Doris Black; and one granddaughter, Candice Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
