McHenry County Conservation District to host Volunteer Fair 2020

Residents looking for a way to give back, spend some time outdoors and enrich their lives while helping the environment may check out the McHenry County Conservation District’s 2nd annual Volunteer Fair.

The fair is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 18 at Lost Valley Visitor Center in Glacial Park, located at Route 31 and Harts Road in Ringwood.

District volunteers restore habitat, preserve ecological diversity, educate people about nature, promote public safety and keep local history alive, said Lora Petrak, community relations specialist with MCCD. No prior experience is needed for most volunteer positions, just a willingness to learn, she said.

Fairgoers will be able to meet volunteers and staff from all of MCCD’s programs, making the fair a prime opportunity to ask questions about being a volunteer, how to register, drop-in programs and important dates, Petrak said.

For information, call the volunteer coordinator at 815-338-6223, ext. 1201, or Volunteers@MCCDistrict.org. More information is available online at http://MCCD.me/Volunteer.
