John Jacob Hubbard, 89, passed away on Friday, Jan. 3, 2020 in Walnut Acres Nursing Home, Freeport.
John was born on June 4, 1930 in Mendota, the son of William C. & Esther (Vogler) Hubbard.
He graduated from high school in Dubuque, Iowa and then he received his college degree from Dubuque University.
John served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Margaret Vorthmann on June 20, 1952 and she preceded in death on Sept. 29, 1985.
John worked for several industries but he retired from Honeywell, Freeport. While working for Honeywell he began to farm and once he retired he farmed full time.
John was an active member with St. James Lutheran Church, Member of the Leaf River Legion where he served as Chaplin for many years, he was a member of the 60’s Alive Group, and he loved his time with his family.
John is survived by his daughter: Marta Poppen, Forreston; grandchildren: Marcie (Loran Marceau) Poppen, Polo; Melissa (Nate) Husman, East Moline; and Staff Sargent Melinda (Mindy) Poppen, Albuquerque, New Mexico; great-grandchildren: Sawyer and Keandria Marceau, Polo; sister: Joyce Anderson, Tacoma, Washington, and several nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his parents; wife: Margaret; brother: William; sister: Janice Caufield; and son in law: Mark Poppen.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. James Lutheran Church, Forreston, with Rev. Karyn Kost officiating. Burial will be in West Grove Cemetery, Forreston.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 4- 6 p.m. in Finch Funeral Home, 405 East Hitt, Mt. Morris.
