A Crystal Lake man was arrested Friday in connection with a stabbing that took place Thursday in unincorporated Crystal Lake and left one man wounded, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said Friday night.

Michael Vrba, 35, was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder, home invasion, residential burglary, aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery.

Sheriff’s deputies responded about 6:22 a.m. Thursday to a home in the 6000 block of Acorn Court and found a 29-year-old Crystal Lake man with wounds consistent with a knife.

Vrba was a former member of the victim’s household, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

Messages were left Friday evening for Deputy Sandra Rogers, an office spokeswoman, but she was not available for comment.

Sheriff’s officials have not disclosed details about the stabbing or what prompted the incident.

The 29-year-old man was taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital before being flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The man remained in serious condition Friday evening but was listed as stable, according to the sheriff's office.

Bond for Vrba is set at $1 million. He must post $100,000 to make bail. He is due in bond court at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Court records show Vrba has no criminal record in McHenry County, only traffic tickets.

The sheriff’s office continues to investigate. Anyone with information can call the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at 815-334-4750.
