Female athlete of the week: McKenzie Schueler

McKenzie Schueler

Basketball | Sophomore

Why Schueler was selected:

The Kaneland basketball player hit a key 3-pointer in a 54-52 win against St. Francis, scoring 13 on 3 of 5 shooting from long range. She added eight points in a blowout win against Plano later in the week. She beat Sycamore bowler Maddie Lathrop and DeKalb bowler Makala Rae in an online poll.

• On the close win against St. Francis

"During halftime we talked about our intensity and our communication, and we brought it to the floor. It hyped my up and gave me confidence to make the free throws and make the big 3, and just overall pull out a win."

• On the adjustment to a new coach

"We're adjusting to her new techniques and new offense and just the way she coaches us. It's different than our coach last year."

• On how the year has gone

"I think it's been an OK year. I definitely think we could have won some games we loss but overall I think as a team we pulled out a lot of wins, and we've really come together.
