Mary Joanne Mensch

Mary Joanne Mensch, 94, of Princeton passed away peacefully Jan. 17, 2020, in Aperion Care of Princeton surrounded by family members.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Daniel Gifford officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church.

Joanne was born July 10, 1925, in Dixon to the late Martin and Jane (Harding) Gannon. She married John E. Mensch on Feb. 7, 1948, in Dixon. He preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 2010. Joanne attended elementary and high school in Dixon. She graduated in 1943 from Dixon High School. Joanne attended Mercy School of Nursing in Aurora, graduating in 1946. After graduating, she worked at National Jewish Health, a leading Respiratory Hospital in Denver, Colo. After movingto Princeton, Joanne worked at Prairie View Nursing Home as the Director of Nursing; then Perry Memorial Hospital as a nursing supervisor and emergency room nurse until she retired.

Joanne was an active member of St. Louis Catholic Church. She also served as an election judge and enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, painting, sewing, knitting, reading and golfing — Joanne even accomplished two holes-in-one!

Survivors include one son, Bill Mensch of Princeton; three daughters Jane (Robert) Edelman of St. Johns, Fla., July (Jon) Fike of Bloomington and Lisa (Tony) Adrahtas of Aurora. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Eric (Candy) Foster, Justin Fike, Jaclyn (Dr. Juan) Taveras, Meghan Edelman, Caitlin (Kevin) O’Keeffe, Ryan and Conor Nally; and one stepgrandchild, Ashley Adrahtas; six great-grandchildren and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two of her children, Monica Gustafson and John Gannon Mensch; a sister, PatriciaMcNamara; brothers Jack and James Gannon; and son-in-law Irvin Gustafson.

The family would like to give a special thank you to themany caregivers at Aperion Care of Princeton (formerly Colonial Hall) fortheir exceptional care and genuine love.
