DeKalb County Watershed Steering Committee hosting workshop

The DeKalb County Watershed Steering Committee
will host a Watershed Goals Workshop to discuss a plan
to improve water quality at
6:30 p.m. Feb. 5 in the DeKalb Park District's River Heights Golf Course Clubhouse, 1020 Sharon Drive, DeKalb.

Those who live in the Lower Upper South Branch of the Kishwaukee River, which covers all of the city of DeKalb and spans as far south as Shabbona, are encouraged to attend.

The committee is made up of representatives from local government agencies, institutions and private landowners. They’re working on a watershed plan to protect and improve water quality in streams, lakes and wetlands, according to the Watershed Stakeholders’ news release.

Funding for the plan comes from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency 319 grant program. Local matching funds and in-kind contributions make up 40% of the grant allocation.

The planning process takes about 18 months to complete.

Those interested in attending the workshop should contact the DeKalb County Soil and Water Conservation District at 815-756-3234, ext. 3, or email Dean Johnson at Dean.Johnson@il.nacdnet.net.
