The Sycamore dance team posted a score of 92.82, good for second place Friday in the preliminary round of the Class 2A State Championships in Bloomington.
Deerfield posted the top 2A score with 92.93, and Geneva was third with 91.94. The final round will be Saturday.
DeKalb scored 79.06, taking 26th. The top 12 teams advanced, with Antioch’s 85.6 grabbing the final qualifying spot.
Hinckley-Big Rock took 29th in Class 1A with 76.72. Joliet Catholic posted 95.82 for the top score of Day 1, while Tolono Unity scored 81.94 for the final qualifying spot.
BOYS BOWLING
Season ends for Spartans: Sycamore rolled a 5,731, good for 23rd place in the first round of the IHSA State Bowling Tournament.
The top 12 teams advanced to the final round Saturday, with Herrin claiming the final spot with 6,067. Harlem led after the first day with 6,713.
Jeffery Gasso led Sycamore with a 1,314.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Kaneland tops Plano: The Knights won, 51-21.
Kelsey Modaff scored 12, and Kylie Holubecki added eight for Kaneland (17-11, 7-4 Interstate Eight Conference).
Genoa-Kingston falls to Dixon: The Cogs lost, 44-26.
Sam Winker scored nine, and Delaney Hemann added eight for Genoa-Kingston.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Shorthanded Indian Creek still rolls: Down three starters and their sixth man, the Timberwolves knocked off Earlville, 75-52.
Drew Gaston led the way with 23 points and nine assists. Cam Russell scored 20 points to go with four assists and three steals. Tyler Swanson had 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Brennen McNalley added 10 points.
Hinckley-Big Rock tops Hiawatha: Richard Hintzche scored 15 as the Royals won, 52-46.
Carson Pickert added 14 points for Hinckley-Big Rock (4-19, 1-5) and Riley Hogan added 10, including four free throws down the stretch.
