Krishna Bansal, a Republican candidate for the 11th Congressional District, held a significant fundraising advantage over his primary opponent during the last quarter.
Bansal collected just over $210,000 between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, including his own $25,000 personal donation and a $25,000 loan, according to a news release and fillings with the Federal Election Commission.
His primary opponent, Rick Laib of Joliet, reported he'd earned just over $5,200 between July 1 and the end of last year, according to FEC filings.
"One of the clearest indications of support for a candidate is how much money they raise," said John Zahm, the communications director for Bansal's campaign, in the release."And we are very pleased with the donations that have come in so far, as well as the impressive amount of endorsements, and grassroots enthusiasm, we have seen.”
Bansal's campaign said most of the money he'd raised came in the 16 days after he launched his campaign on December 14.
Bansal is running for the Congressional seat held by U.S. Rep. Bill Foster, D-Naperville. He describes himself as an entrepreneur and philanthropist and is the president and CEO of a technology and services company he founded in 2002.
