G. Allen Thompson

ROANOKE, Va. – G. Allen Thompson, 92, of Roanoke, Virginia, formerly of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, St. Clair Shores, Michigan, and Dixon, IL, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020.

Allen was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Thompson.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty Thompson; three sons, Timothy (Gail) Thompson, Jeffrey (Theresa) Thompson, and John (Janet) Thompson; six grandchildren, Chris Thompson, Nicole Thompson, Trent Thompson, Jason (Jamie) Thompson, Heather Thompson, and Katy (Stephen) Foutz; three great-grandchildren, Gabriel Foutz, Asher Allen Foutz, and Caleb Allen Thompson; niece, Karen Dighy; and nephew, George Thompson.

Allen was born in Dixon, IL on Dec. 28, 1927, to the late Edward and Mildred Thompson. He served his country in the U. S. Navy. He married Betty on June 9, 1950. Allen was an insurance executive for U.S.F & G for 34 years. He loved spending time with his family along with golfing, fishing and running errands. Allen was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He was an active church leader at Colonial United Methodist Church, Harrisburg, PA. He volunteered with the Salvation Army as a Bell Ringer and was a member of Brandon Oaks Singing Group “The Balladeers.”

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020, at the Chapel of Brandon Oaks in Roanoke, Virginia. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Dixon, IL. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.
