Skate use free at new Dixon ice rink, which will open this afternoon

DIXON – Here's another good reason to check out the Dixon Park District's new ice rink: Free skates!

The Page Park ice rink will be open today from 2:30 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for open skating, and from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday for ice hockey.

Hours are subject to change depending on the weather, and updates will be posted on the district's Facebook page. If you get there first, pressing the green button on the warming shed will turn on the lights and music for the 60-by-100-foot rink, which is set up at the basketball courts.

Because there are only so many pairs, skates are available in hourlong increments, depending on the size and the demand, so that they can be shared. If you have any new or gently used skates you don't need any longer, the park district will be happy to take them off your, er, feet.

Call 815-284-3306, go to dixonparkdistrict.com or find the Dixon Park District on Facebook for more information or volunteer opportunities.
