Why Nelson was selected

The DeKalb girls basketball player averaged 15 points and 11.5 rebounds as the Barbs reached the title game of their regional. In an online poll she beat out Sycamore basketball player Faith Klemm and DeKalb-Sycamore gymnast Maddy Kees.

• On what was working last week

"It was probably just know that it was possibly my last week of playing basketball and wanting to put everything on the floor for my teammates and just end on a high note."

• On what's it been liking seeing the team turnaround over last four years

"It's just unreal seeing in my freshman year going from five wins almost to a winning season, and how everyone has gathered around that and wants to further progress the program.

• On why she thinks the team can be successful next year

"They're all just willing to work and listen to anything everyone has to say. If you give them direction to help them out they listen and that's awesome. It will help them in the future and really help the program."
