Michael Eldon Settles

FRANKLIN GROVE – Michael Eldon Settles, Sr., 65, of Franklin Grove, was called home to the Lord on, Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon surrounded by his family. He retired as a Major from the Dixon Correctional Center in October 2009. After retirement, he worked for the Village of Franklin Grove.

Michael was born November 10, 1954, in Carrollton, IL, the son of Reverend Joy and Shirley (Dale) Settles. He married the love of his life, Deborah Woolsey, who he nicknamed “Nilman” on November 11, 1972, in Jerseyville, IL. Mike was a member of Grace Fellowship Church, Ashton, IL and an active Mason with Masonic Lodge #7 in Dixon. He was a devoted Green Bay Packer and Chicago Cubs Fan. Mike loved to go hunting and fishing. His passions spread into the lives of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time at Kentucky Lake with his wife and family. Mike was the best husband, father and papa you could ask for and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years Deborah Settles of Franklin Grove; two sons, Michael (Emily) Settles Jr., Jeremiah Settles; two daughters, Heather (Willy Schaneberg) Settles, Christy Settles; 11 grandchildren, Alexandria Settles, Jordan Harrison, Alyscia Settles, Jadyn Settles, Mallory Settles, Jacob Settles, Alexis Schwarz, Jeremiah Settles II, Skylar Wilcox, Willie Schaneberg, Madison Wilcox; two great-grandchildren, Akari Harrison and Isaac Collins; father, Reverend Joy Settles; two sisters, Rebecca (Bruce) Pitchford of Greenfield, IL and Stacey (Mike) Talbott of the Quad Cities.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Settles; foster brother, Marcus Herrin and beloved dogs, Opal and Gretta.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2020, at the Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Ltd., Dixon, IL followed by a Masonic Service at 5 p.m. Additional visitation will also be from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2020, at Grace Fellowship Church in Ashton, IL, with the Rev. Brad Pittman, officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be at Franklin Grove Cemetery in Franklin Grove, IL at a later date.

A memorial has been established.
