Arby's advances New Lenox plan

At its meeting Monday night, the New Lenox Village Board concluded a public hearing for the annexation of property for a proposed Arby's at the southwest corner of Route 30 and Tonnell Avenue.

The board was presented with four measures, including annexation and rezoning ordinances on the currently unincorporated property.

As requested by the developers, the village will pay for the demolition of a vacant home on one of the two lots. The cost should not exceed $60,000, said Mayor Tim Baldermann.

The village agreed to this request because it is not allowing the developers to build another restaurant attached to the Arby’s “which will cut back on their revenue,” Baldermann said later.

“The only reason we are partnering on a development on a smaller scale is because it’s such an eyesore,” he noted.

Donna Skiniotes, who lives to the south of the lot, expressed concerns about the proposed fencing between the two properties and the placement of the dumpster, but did not request that the village reject the project.

An Arby's in Joliet recently closed.

Baldermann also announced the final two bands that will play at New Lenox’s annual Triple Play summer concert series this year.

Dennis DeYoung, lead vocalist of the rock band Styx, will perform on June 13 and Billy Idol will perform on Aug. 8. ZZ Top was previously announced for July 3.

There is no date yet for tickets sales. While sale of tickets is limited to New Lenox residents and residents of the 60451 zip code, IDs are not required for purchase, Baldermann said.
