Dunkin' could be coming to Dixon

An empty lot at the corner of Galena and Chamberlin in Dixon is the proposed spot for a Dunkin'.

DIXON – Dunkin’ could be coming to Dixon.

Dunkin’ franchise owner Asif Rajabali, of Niles, is petitioning the city for a special-use permit to build a doughnut and coffee shop at 420 N. Galena Ave., a vacant lot at the corner of Chamberlin Street.

The petition for a special-use permit for a fast food restaurant with a drive-thru was presented to the City Council Monday and was referred to the Plan Commission. It will go back to the council, likely next month, for a vote after the commission’s recommendation.

Council members don’t normally discuss petitions until there’s a recommendation from the commission.

Rajabali is president of AR Network Inc., which also opened the Dunkin’ in Freeport.

National coffee chains in the area include the Dunkin’ in Rock Falls, owned by franchisee Bud Patel of Naperville, which opened in late 2017 at 1800 First Ave., as well as the Starbucks in Sterling Commons that opened around the same time.
