Grundy Transit System suspends fares during COVID-19 outbreak

All rides will be free through April 15

Grundy Transit System had eliminated fares during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This week, the GTS suspended collecting fares on the GTS buses. This action is being followed by many of the other transit systems across Illinois in an effort to minimize contact between people on the buses, due to the novel coronavirus.

The action means that no fares will be collected on the buses now through Wednesday, April15. All rides will be free.

"If we decide to make any changes in this policy, we will post that information here on our Facebook page," GTS officials released in a statement. "We will continue to do all that we can to help keep everyone healthy, both our riders and our drivers. This includes additional cleaning on the buses, over and above what we are already doing."

GTS has also stepped adapted how it cleans and sanitizes the bus fleet over the past few weeks, using additional cleaning practices on the buses. All buses are thoroughly disinfected at the end of each day.

"We are dedicated to making sure we use all available resources to keep our drivers and our passengers healthy," the GTS added.
