Aurora Police Department staff member tests positive for coronavirus

Employee expected to make full recovery

AURORA – The Aurora Police Department has identified its first confirmed case of COVID-19 involving one of its employees.

A member of the department's supervisory staff started feeling ill on March 17 and went home to seek medical treatment, which included being tested for COVID-19, Aurora Police Department spokesman Paris Lewbel said in a statement.

As directed by health officials, the staff member immediately self-quarantined at home while awaiting the results, Lewbel said.

"We were notified late yesterday by the Kendall County Health Department that the test result was positive for COVID-19," Lewbel said. "Thorough cleaning and disinfecting of the involved employee’s work area has been completed."

The staff member’s condition is already improving and the employee is expected to make a full recovery, he said. The staff member lives outside of Aurora.

"The Aurora Police Department will continue to monitor the health of its workforce and work spaces in all facilities and we will act swiftly should anyone exhibit symptoms of the virus," Lewbel said.
