An apartment building on the East Side of Joliet caught fire Wednesday morning while three people were inside, according to the Joliet Fire Department.
The three occupants escaped the blaze before firefighters arrived, said Joliet Fire Chief Greg Blaskey.
About 10 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters from Joliet Fire Stations No. 1, 4 and 5 responded to a fire at a four-unit apartment building in the 1600 block of Elgin Avenue, Blaskey said.
When the fire crews arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and a fire on the second floor of the building, Blaskey said. The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes, he said.
The three occupants who were in the building at the time made their way out before the firefighters arrived, he said.
No one was injured in the incident, Blaskey said.
Fire investigators have been requested to the scene, he said.
