Island Lake garage fire causes $60k in damages

An Island Lake garage fire caused an estimated $60,000 in damages, according to the Wauconda Fire District.

The Wauconda Fire District received a report of a structure fire at 11:34 p.m. Friday in the 3500 block of Eastway Drive in Island Lake. When Island Lake Police arrived on the scene, they reported a fully involved detached garage. Police said there were possible exposures to the home, which was about 10 feet away.

The Island Lake Fire Station arrived on the scene at 11:37 p.m. and confirmed the garage fire report. They then pulled a 2 1/2 line and performed a transitional fire attack. The hoseline was placed in the window until the second crew arrived and was able to enter through the front overhead doors. The hoseline was then moved to extinguish the majority of the fire.

At 11:53 p.m., the fire was under control, and crews remained on the scene to perform overhaul and salvage. All responding units were released at 1:08 a.m., the Wauconda Fire District said.

The fire is still under investigation.

According to the Wauconda Fire District, the Nunda Fire Department, Barrington Countryside Fire, Fox River Grove Fire Department, Countryside Fire Department and Lake Zurich Fire Department assisted with putting out the fire.
