Roundabout work begins Tuesday in Sterling

STERLING – The roundabout at LeFevre Road and Lynn Boulevard on the west end of town will begin to take shape next week.

Signs will be posted Monday and, from Tuesday until summer, Lynn Boulevard will be closed at the intersection. The entire intersection will be closed during the summer for paving and striping, and the project is scheduled for completion in August.

Lynn Boulevard also will be resurfaced from LeFevre to 11th Street. That is a project separate from the roundabout work, and will come with a $59,649 price tag, Sterling Public Works Superintendent Brad Schrader said.

LeFevre Road will have limited access until the full closure. Traffic from the city should access businesses west of the intersection via McCue Road, which is accessible by either Science Ridge Road or West Fourth Street, “for the safety of the workers,” Schrader said.

The city is spending about $942,000 to build the roundabout to better accommodate Halo Branded Solutions, on the southeast corner of the intersection, and other growing companies in the Meadowlands Business Park, and make the intersection safer for motorists and pedestrians.

The project has been delayed for months because of the moving of a Nicor gas line; Nicor’s contractor, NPL Construction, finished that on Tuesday, Schrader said.

The bike path at the northwest corner of the intersection also will be closed until summer.
