Frida Kahlo exhibition in Glen Ellyn rescheduled for 2021

GLEN ELLYN –The Cleve Carney Museum of Art and the McAninch Arts Center at the College of DuPage announced that the pandemic has prompted the rescheduling of the “Frida Kahlo 2020” exhibition originally scheduled this June through August to June 5 to Sept. 6, 2021.

“Although this was an incredibly difficult decision to make, we feel that this will give us the best opportunity to bring Frida’s artwork to the widest community possible, and to present her legacy in the celebratory spirit with which it has always been intended,” McAninch Arts Center Director and “Frida Kahlo 2020” Executive Director Diana Martinez stated in a news release. “The decision, approved [April 16] by the COD Board of Trustees, was made in concert with our partners and stakeholders. We are very fortunate to have their support both now and in the future. We are also fortunate that the art is available to us next summer, and that we can all experience everything we planned and more in 2021.”

“This has been a challenging time for everyone, but we are inspired just as much by Frida at this moment as we have been throughout the development of the exhibition,” added exhibition curator and Cleve Carney Museum of Art Curator Justin Witte in the release. “We only have to look to her to be reminded that we can persist and endure. We plan to do just that, and look forward to presenting this amazing exhibition, retitled “Frida Kahlo: Timeless,” next summer.”

Those who have purchased a ticket to "Frida Kahlo 2020" do not need to take any action. The MAC box office team automatically will move those tickets to the equivalent date in 2021. A calendar of the new dates may be viewed at theccma.org/rescheduled.

Ticket holders for whom the new date does not work or who have questions may email the box office at themac@cod.edu beginning April 21.

In anticipation of the exhibition, the MAC will host a series of monthly programs related to Frida Kahlo beginning this summer. More information will be announced in the coming weeks. One can follow along for additional information at Frida2020.org and on social media @CleveCarneyMuseumofArt.
