LISLE – Kathleen Doyle, the former Benet Academy two-time state champion and 2016 Illinois Miss Basketball selection, was drafted 14th overall by the Indiana Fever in Friday's WNBA Draft.
Doyle, the Iowa University standout guard and 2020 Big Ten Player of the Year, joins a Fever draft class that includes No. 3 overall selection, Lauren Cox, out of Baylor.
A third team AP All-American, Doyle became the first draft choice from Iowa selected by the Fever franchise. Doyle joined former teammate Megan Gustafson as the first pair of Hawkeyes to be drafted into the WNBA in consecutive seasons since 2001.
"We were ecstatic that Kathleen was there at No. 14 and she's going to be a part of the Fever family moving forward," Fever coach Marianne Stanley said via the team website. "The ball doesn't stick in her hands. The ball moves and she gets people into their spots."
Doyle started all 30 games she appeared in this past season, averaging 18.1 points, 6.3 assists and 4.6 rebounds for the Hawkeyes.
In a 15 second video uploaded to Twitter, Doyle introduced herself to Fever fans and thanked the front office for the opportunity.
"I can't wait to join the Fever organization," Doyle said. "I can't wait to get to Indy as soon as possible to get to work. I hope everyone [is] staying safe and healthy out there; let's get after it. Go Fever."
