OSWEGO – The Oswego Village Board approved the extension of Village Board President Troy Parlier's state of emergency declaration and proclamations in the wake of the COVID-19 coronvarius pandemic.
The village board unanimously voted in favor of the extensions during their Tuesday, April 21 meeting. Board members Pam Parr and Judy Sollinger participated in the meeting electronically.
The update comes after Parlier signed an additional executive order earlier on Tuesday in an effort to make food safety, competitive bidding and real estate showings safer as the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic continues.
“I think we’ve learned a lot in these past few weeks, and ... this would be one thing applying what we’ve learned to help us move forward safely,” Parlier said.
The declaration was extended through May 12, which is when the next village board meeting is scheduled. There will be a new resolution brought before the board for a vote to extend the declaration beyond the next meeting.
Parlier first issued the emergency declaration March 16, following similar orders by President Donald Trump, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Kendall County Board Chairman Scott Gryder. The village board later extended Parlier's executive order authority April 7 through April 30.
In following orders, Parlier closed Oswego Village Hall, Oswego Public Works and the Oswego Police Station to the public, suspended and halted solicitor licenses, eased overnight parking restrictions, and permitted the sale of packaged liquor at establishments with permits only allowing for "on-premise" consumption.
Parlier also extended the dates for submitting liquor license renewal payments, hotel/motel taxes, and March food/beverage taxes.
