Gunned down outside Crest Hill Taco Bell, wounded man died at hospital

Wounded man died at hospital

A man was shot outside the Crest Hill Taco Bell on Friday evening and later died at a Joliet hospital, police said.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired outside the 1818 Plainfield Road Taco Bell about 5 p.m. found evidence of a gun attack but no signs of a victim, said Crest Hill Police Chief Ed Clark.

Police officers later learned a man in his 20s had died soon after at AMITA Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Clark said.

Will County Deputy Chief Coroner Laurie Summers said she had yet to receive information on the slain man Friday night.

The Will County Sheriff's Office was processing the crime scene Friday night, Clark said, and the Will-Grundy Major Crimes Task Force was assisting in the investigation.

Detectives were following leads and seeking video surveillance footage Friday night as well, Clark said.
