Joliet's 4th fatal shooting victim a 20-year-old man: cops

Shooters fled to Diamond, police say

The fourth person gunned down in Joliet in the last four days was a 20-year-old man, police said.

Officers found the slain man in a driveway of a residence in the 300 block of Grant Avenue, Joliet police said in a news release.

Officers learned of the Joliet man’s death while they were pursuing a black Cadillac SUV after hearing gunshots about 9 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Fifth Avenue and Sherman Street, police said.

“The identity of the 20-year-old male fatally shot will be released by the Will County Coroner’s Office,” police said.

After the officers heard gunshots at Fifth Avenue and Sherman Street, they spotted a black Cadillac SUV fleeing the area, police said.

The officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the SUV at Richards Street and Fourth Avenue but the SUV “failed to stop for the officer," headed for Interstate 80 and fled west, police said.

Officers pursued the vehicle to the southbound Interstate 55 and then to the area of West Coal City Road in Diamond, where the SUV stopped, police said.

Officers took two people who fled from the SUV into custody immediately, police said.

Joliet police and other law enforcement agencies established a perimeter and conducted a search for the remaining suspects who fled from the SUV, police said.

Two other people were found in the 2500 block of East Stellon Street in Diamond and taken into custody about 1:30 a.m., police said.
