Community Food Pantry of Dixon says thanks for 41 years of support

To the Editor:

The Community Food Pantry of Dixon was started in 1979 at First United Methodist Church, with the help of the Council of Ministry.

Each church would set aside the first Sunday of the month for donations. The pantry stayed at First United Methodist Church for 25 years.

The pantry was not wheelchair-accessible, so we decided to look for another location. We approached the Lee County Properties Committee about the Fourth Street building. The committee went to the Lee County Board, which approved letting the food pantry move into part of the building in 2005. In 2007, the pantry became incorporated.

We are so appreciative of the support we have received throughout our 41 years, and even more so in these trying times. We depend solely on contributions from individuals, churches, corporations, Thrivent and trust funds, Scouts, clubs, and organizations such as the Leydig Center.

The pantry, with our very dedicated volunteers is open from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 2001 W. Fourth St.

We want to again thank everyone who has contributed to the pantry and may God bless you.

Delores Kness,

Dixon Food Pantry president
